Question on OPT

Hi All,

I am on a F1 visa right now and I am graduating this December. I just want some information regarding Optional Practical Training (OPT). When would be the best time to apply for the OPT taking the thanksgiving and the christmas holidays into consideration?. Usually how much time does it take for one to get the OPT card?. I am in the state of Texas.

Any information regarding this is highly appreciated.

Hi,

If you are graduating this Dec, you should have applied for your OPT by now. Why are you delaying it?? I would advice you to apply it as soon as possible. WHen applying you can specfy a start date on your OPT from the day of your graduation to upto 2 months later. Suppose, you are graduating on Dec 17th, you can request for a OPT to start on anytime from Dec 18th to Feb 18th and last for an year from than.

I applied for my OPT last year, it took abt 6 to 7 weeks to get my card. I don't know how long it is taking now. But please apply before it is too late. DON;T GO OUT OF STATUS, it will effect your H-1B.
