Procedure to get F1 visa for a person that is already in F1 status

Hi,

I was on F2 visa in US and last year changed my visa status to F1 student. I haven't gone to india after that and now I am planning to go. I know I have to get F1 VISA when I go. Is the procedure for applying F1 VISA in my case is different? What documents do I need to take in order to prove my valid F1 status.

Also, I renewed my passport and my previous F2 VISA is in old passport.So Do I need to submit both passports during visa application?
