I recently applied (mid December 2014) for a renewal of my F1 visa but since I had "Clearance Received" written on my visa, I had to go through the interview process again and ended up receiving a 221(g) white slip and they put my visa application on hold for "advanced processing". (I applied in New Delhi)
My previous F1 visa is valid till June 2015 and I was wondering if I can just ask the embassy to give back my passport for "travel outside India" during the advanced processing phase and when they are done with it, I can come back to India and get the Visa. I want to make sure that I can travel on my previous F1 visa to the US while this new visa application is being processed. Is there anyone who has done this before?
