Hi, I graduated from a music college last year and I have finished my OPT. My EAD expires on Oct 11 2005. I will be required to leave the US on Dec 10 2005. However, very likely I will have an O-1 visa sponsor or I will study at another school in a few months or so. I am still waiting for replies and going to interviews, making decisions, so I do not want to go home and come back. I was thinking to apply for a change of status from F1 to B2 visitor so that I can still stay in this country while everything is pending. But yesterday I called the USCIS and they said I cannot change from F1 to B2, they said I need to go home and apply for the B2 in my home country. Is this true? I think people can get an 0-1 visa or H-1 visa without leaving the US , why is it so hard to apply for a B2 visa?
How could I extend my stay for a few months? If I still stay in the US after my current stay expires, would it have a negative effect when I apply for my next F1 or O1 or H1? I do not want to violate my status but I do not want to take the risk of going home.
Please let me know, thanks so much!
