  • Apply for new student Visa or convert the current B-2 visa to F-1

    Hi,

So I have a Tourist Visa(B-2) valid till 2020 and I am enrolling in a Full time MBA course with Boston University this fall for which I need a F-1 visa.

I am currently in India and I do not intend to go before my course starts so I have no use of the visitor's visa for now.

Just wanted to clear whether I should apply for conversion of B-2 Visa to F-1 visa or sould i apply for a new F-1 visa in addition to the B-2 Visa.

I will follow the option that is easier and has more probability of me getting the visa.

    F1

You would have to file for the F1. There is no option to go from a B2 to a F1.
This is my opinion not legal advice.

Adjustment of status while you are in the USA is risky. If they deny your application, you need to leave the country and your existing visa willbe canceled.

Even if your application approved, you need to go for stamping, if you leave the USA during the cource. Again it's a big betting! there's no problem if your visa approved. But, if your visa got denied....you have to loose your admission, fees, academics and your existing visitor visa.

This is my opinion, not a legal advice.
