Does Canadian visitor change their status within usa

my wife is a canadian citizen and shes holding F1 status and we have under 18 childrens who are also canadian citizens they just came to USA but we plan to change their status as a dependant so can we change their status within USA or they have to go back to canada in order to get the dependant status.

please advice me
