I-20 linked to passport?

Hello,

I am about to apply for an F-1 visa. I sent my passport information to my institution, and have now received my I-20. Can I acquire a new passport before applying for the visa, without my institution having to issue a new I-20?

Passport information (country of issuance, serial#) is not listed on Form I-20.

I see no reason why you need a new I-20
