My F-1 visa ends January 18 of 2016 and unfortunately, I wasn't selected in this year's H-1B lottery. Now my company understands that and has agreed to let me work from India (my home country) until I get selected in the next H-1B lottery or if that doesn't work they are ready to sponsor me an L-1 visa. All in all, I will be back in the U.S. at the very least by January 2017. Now my company has also agreed to continue paying my US salary even though I am not in the US but this is what is confusing me, starting from January 19 2016 (and until Oct 2016 or Jan 2017), I am not in the US under any visa so will I have to pay US taxes ? If yes, what's the rate ? And how is it determined ? I understand that I will have to probably pay taxes in India if I don't pay it in US. So would I have to self report my salary or would the company automatically deduct a certain amount for me to pay the Indian taxes ?
I would really appreciate if you guys could shed some light on this. Thanks!
