Hi all. I joined my university in fall 2013 and my expected completion date on my i20 was on 11th june 2015. Due to a low gpa I had to take more courses and hence extend the duration of my course. I did not know that I have to submit an extention for my i20. I got a call from the international student services saying that my i20 is expired and they have to terminate my sevis record and I have 15 days to leave the country. They gave me two options - One is reinstatement of i20 which is application followed by work by an immigration attorney, The other is issuing me a new i20 and I have to leave the country and come back again. Information to note is that my F1 visa is valid till 2018.
I need your advice what to do. I spoke to a legal advisor about this and he said reinstatement is a good option since the duration of your i20 expired is less. Also he told me its going to cost 3000+dollars for the attorney fees. I am confused to which option I should choose.
