Hi,
I am a PhD student in F1 Visa. Since my advisor is in sabbatical, I am planning work in Israel for an year while maintaining status in my school. I will register in research credits and will be supported by RA. International Office of my school said : Theoretically I need to get a new I-20 and Visa if I choose to stay outside US for more than 5 month. However practically they haven't heard about anybody having trouble in this situation. So in the end it's my choice to either re-apply for Visa or take the risk.
I am not sure what exactly is the rule in this situation. I don't know if its worth to take the risk.
Any suggestion regarding this rule will be welcome.
Thanks a lot.
