L1 to F1 conversion

Hi

My company plans to apply for a L1 visa for me starting 7th January 2016. At the same time, I wish to pursue MS in Fall 2016 and have already submitted my applications.

Will it be a problem for me to get a F1 visa after a L1 visa?
A colleague of mine said that I might be denied F1 visa because of fear of immigration due to existing L1.

Looking forward to a reply!
Would be of great help if somebody has been through this situation before.
