  • I-94 with new passport/F1 Visa

    Hi everyone,

I'm on a F-1 visa, I'm right now doing my OPT, which expires on June 30th 2016. My passport expires in August but since the expiration date of the passport is now in less than 6 months, I applied for a new passport at the Spanish Consulate in New York. Since the I-94 is on my actual passport and the deadline is set for D/S (meaning June 30th), how do I go about renewing it on my new passport without having to leave the country? Would the I-94 on the old passport be still valid?

    Thank you,

    Thomas

You don't have to 'renew' anything. Your sole responsibility is to ensure you leave the country within the time period allowed (60 days) after end of your program or OPT. Keep a print of the I94 showing entry/ exit the next time you enter the US in case you are asked to prove that you left. FWIW you should also inform your school's International Student advisor of your new passport particulars.
