Reaching two day after

Hi,
I booked ticket for one day after i20 date (didn't know about the date then and prices were going up)
Admission office said it would be okay, but dhs website indicates to reach prior to i20.
What should I do, changing ticket is costly.
I don't want to get handcuffed and sent to Guatamala.
