My fiance left US after finishing up her Masters couple of months ago. She is now planning to apply for another Masters program starting from summer 2017. Her current F1 visa will expire on 2019. So does she need a new F1 visa for the new graduate program ? She will be out of US for more than 5 months by the time she receives acceptance letter. Does staying outside US for more than 5 months automatically invalidate F1 visa ? I read somewhere that this rule is only for those who has break in studies (i.e. left US without completing a degree).
My impression was as her F1 didn't expire yet, she just need a new I-20 from the new school to re-enter US.
