I am Indian who, in 2015, was in UCLA on a J1 visa as an exchange student. Since I was supposed to get some stipend from the professor, the office staff asked me to apply for an SSN. I complied, but given the program was only 10 weeks long, I did not receive the SSN during that time. I returned back to India, completed my Bachelors and am back in USA for my graduate studies on an F1 visa. Now, the last time, when I was in the US, my passport had "Rishav Roy" in the given name and consequently my name was "FNU Rishav Roy" on my J1 visa. After returning, I got my name bifurcated and got a new passport with a different passport number. My current F1 visa is based on that. Should I apply for a new SSN or get the previous one (which was supposedly issued) modified?
