  • Applying for a Student Visa but my father has been an illegal immigrant for 1 year

So... my father went to the US on a Tourist visa around a year ago but I haven't known anything about him since, I'm sure he overstayed his visa but since we were never close I don't really care.
The thing is that, around 5 months ago I applied and got ACCEPTED into a University in the US. I am now in process to apply for a F-1 visa because thankfully I have all the required documentation, but now I am a bit worried.
Obviously, me and my father have the exact same last name and birthday (i know, what are the chances) and I'm worried that for some reason, the fact that he has been living in the US illegally will affect me when I get to the Airport and get interviewed by the Immigration Officers. I honestly DO NOT keep in touch with my father and I'm certainly sure that we WON'T live in the same city, but I am still worried... what can I do about this? I hope someone here can help me, and please don't judge. Like I said, I don't keep in touch or approve of my father's actions.
    Thank you.

If you have applied for the visa, then you already had to put that he is in the US, as that is asked on the form. If there is an interview, they will ask about it.

Sure, it can have an effect on you. It's hard to say to what extent. There is not much you can do about it.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
