Hi guys,
Hope you are doing well. I have a concern regarding change of name in India and how it might affect my applications/visa for MS in the US.
I am applying for admission to graduate programs in the US for Fall 2017 and submitted all my applications. I wish to change my surname due to some personal reasons. Some more details are included below.
Current legal name: Ashok Kumar
Desired legal name: Ashok Khanna
As I understand, the procedure for a name change is as follows:
1. Affidavit
2. Newspaper publication
3. Gazette Notification
4. Name change on all documents (passport, bank a/c, Aadhar, PAN, etc.)
I have contacted the universities regarding this situation and they have said that the I-20 will be issued with the NEW name provided I have a valid passport.
I would like to hear from you whether there is anything I have missed out above. Will there be any complications in getting the F1 visa?
