can u convert frm j1 to h4 without the wavier???

hi,
i am going to start my residency on j1 which is only for 1 yr .Is it possible to convert to h4 without having to go back to home country for 2yrs?

No. J1 in itself is non transferable visa. Either you work in underserve areas for 2 yrs in U.S or go back to home country for 2 yrs before reentering.
Your waiver will be postponed if you do your fellowship after finishing your residency.
