My Husbands passport will expire in 2020 and he got an admit in X university for his Phd (5 years). Will he be provided F1 visa for 5 years in his current passport or he will again have to apply for F1 visa in 2019 or 2020 once he renew his passport ?

you are confusing status and visa. Visa is for reentry to the US. He can keep renewing his status without having a valid visa stamp which is done by Embassy. Technically he can go from F1 to OPT to H1B to green card to citizenship without ever getting a new visa stamp on his passport. Visa is only for purposes of reentry if he goes back for a visit to home country.
