CPT rule for the second degree in the US -- does one have to wait for two semesters?

My wife has done her Master's in the USA in a non-STEM program. She is now working on OPT which will expire in August, 2017. However, she has got admission into a Ph.D. program in the same institution where she did her MS. Is it possible that she gets CPT for her Ph.D. from the very first semester (i.e., Fall 2017), and work in her current job for a few more months?

I know a student has to wait for two semesters before getting a CPT for her first degree. But, in this case, this is my wife's second degree. Any information in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
