I finished my bachelors in December 2016. I drained all my OPT during my bachelors, hence couldn't do post completion OPT.
I continued in my masters to be on an F1 status starting January 2017. (Did CPT during this semester)
On June 1st 2017, I received an approval for my H1B.
For the summer I am on a pre-completion OPT attached to my masters.
Since I have my approved H1B, I do not plan on continuing my masters, at least not for Fall 2017.
Also since I am on a pre completion OPT, I know I am not eligible for a cap gap extension of this.
However, am I eligible for a regular cap-gap extension of my F1 if I don't enroll for the fall semester?
In other words, can I not leave the USA and have my status switch from F1 to H1B?
My DSO says this is not possible, and if I want to stay in the USA I will have to enroll for another semester.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
