Urgent- please share experience- OPT expires before degree completion

Please share your experiences. I applied for pre completion OPT and ended up having an extended thesis. Finally getting to defend this semester but my OPT will be expiring before that. I’m not getting much help from my school international office . I have asked if i can extend my OPT using my previous stem degree. Any one with any experience pls share.
