F1 on STEM OPT, getting married, can work throughout adjustment of status?

Currently working in STEM field on F1 STEM OPT and I am getting married soon. I am wondering if I can continue working while applying for a green card? In my past experience with USCIS, you usually stay on one status until the adjustment of status is approved. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have work authorization and still have a year left on OPT, but I really need to have some conversations with my employer if I can't work.
