  • F1 status will be expiring so what are the alternatives?

    Hi
    Everyone!

I am an OPT international student from India. Due to my personal reason , it took me 3 years to complete my Master's Degree. I started my Master's in January 2015 and completed it in December 2017(3 years ). As you all know the F1 Visa is only for 5 years. I just started my OPT(from Feb ) , I am planning to apply h1b next year(that will be in 2019) and my F1 Visa is going to expire in November 2019.

So my question is what are the options do I have to continue staying in the usa even after my F1 visa expires(after 2019, if h1b is not picked up or in any worst case). Because we can have stem extension for 2 years (1yr***yr). So Can i stay in usa with Stem opt status even after my F1 visa expires? I am not sure about the process . I hope you got the content . Please do reply if you have any idea about this situation.

    Thank you!

A visa is for entry purposes only.
I94 determines the legality of your stay. When you get your OPT extension your stay will be extended as long as the international students' office at your school updates your sevis records accordingly. It is a routine process, and the office should help you out. If you have to travel outside the US and the visa is expired, you will have to go to the consulate to get F1 visa stamped again.
Just an opinion; Not legal advice.
