Hi,
I am currently on L1 visa with my wife who is on L2 with EAD. She is going to start college in Sep 2018 and would like to apply for F1 visa.
After some research and discussions with current and a few former students she was advised to apply from outside US. If she applies from within
US it may take much longer time (typically 6 months to 1 year) compared to typically less than 1 month if she applies from outside (like India or Canada).
Even though she can start college while waiting for the visa, she wont be able to intern next summer since she would have spent less than required time on F1 status.
I would like to know if there is a way to verify such claims online?
Also, if it is advisable to apply from outside, then I would like to apply from Canada. Does that raise any concerns or red flags?
Thanks,
Shrikant
