  • F1 status -on/off campus work

    Hello,

I was a F1 student at Arizona State Univ, graduated in 2002. During my M.S. program, ASU has a department called Corporate Leaders Program dept, where it allowed me to goto a company near by and work for 20hrs/week. The company paid the money to ASU dept, ASU game the fee waiver and hourly wage. This program is running for almost 20years in ASU and many F1 students have graduated through this program.

Recently when I attended H1B visa interview, the VO told me that this could be illegal and put it on INS check! Could any one tell me if this is legal or illegal? ASU dept tells me that since ASU has paid me the salary all the time, it is still considered as on-campus employment only.

    Thanks,
    raja.

That one is a bit tricky.....but i think the determination as whethe rits on or off campus emplyment will be made by USCIS and not the School in this case. I guess they're interpreting on campus literally
