Apply OPT Stem while waiting on J1- Urgent help!!
Hello everyone,
I'm currently working under my F1 OPT visa and waiting for my J1 visa to be approved. My EAD card expires on Nov 11th, 2018 and my J1 visa won't be deliverred anytime soon (earliest is Jan 2019). I don't want to be out of status while waiting for J1 visa and it might take the USCIS 14 months to complete the process of my J1. Is it possible to apply for OPT Stem while waiting for my J1 to arrive? If yes, will my OPT Stem automatically cancelled once I start using my J1 visa?
My job position is only offered for F1 OPT (1 year) and J1 visa; however, you can still working under OPT Stem if you are a grad student. Should I apply to become grad-student to use my OPT Stem while waiting for my J1 to arrive? Do I have to drop out when my J1 arrive after?
