I currently have a F1 visa valid until June 2019. While in India, I applied to renew my visa. As I'm still studying in the same university, I qualified for an interview exemption. My passport was recently returned to me with a 221g slip, asking me to appear for an interview. My previous visa stamp is still unmarked. My return ticket is booked for 2 days from now and I only have tomorrow to go for an interview. The helpline agent I talked with said that my current visa should still be acceptable for entry to the US. Further, I might be able to appear for my interview tomorrow but hold on to my passport for now. I could later submit my passport for stamping. Does anyone have any similar experiences?
I'm hoping not to change my travel dates because classes have started at my university and also, it would be very expensive to change my tickets now.
