  • F-1 student for exchange program outside US!!!!! URGENT

    Hi everybody

I'm a french citizen. I have an F-1 visa with I-20 form. I'm in my third year in the University of Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico and i would like to make an exchange for a semester to a European university. Sevilla, Spain, is my choice. They accepted me. I will be paying the Univ. in Puerto Rico, my credits will be registered in PR and still i will be a full-time student in the US. The I-20 form says i can go out for a period of 5months so my visa can stay "active". But according to an immigration source in San Juan and others the problem is that apparently if i leave the US and study in a non US school, i will lose my "F-1 status" with the argument that the visa has been given to study on the US territory.

Given that i still would be a full-time student in the US, that the exchange program is a university program, that i am a french citizen so i don't need other visa to go to spain since i'm european, i should be able to do the exchange for a semester should i?

Thanks for helping out!! I really need answers the quickest possible!!!!!
