does h4 need to get f1 to study??

i'm on h4 and would like to do my masters. do i have to change my visa to F1 or i can study on H4 ? Also, how long will it take to change from h4 to f1??? would be great if someone could enlighten me!!

No. You can study on H4 and if you have established residency in the state, you will be eligible for non-resident tuition fee waiver. This is true for some universities, you will have to check specifically for the university you are applying to.

Also, how long will it take to change from h4 to f1???
