Can F1 visa with pending AOS application enroll in US college?

I'm on F1 visa and applying for AOS marriage-based with a US citizen. I'm currently on OPT. I was on Academic Probation at the university i've got F1 visa. I would like to finish my studying toward BS degree. Could anyone tell me whether i can enroll in a US college as an international student or re-instate or apply for my current university? Do i have to come back to my home country to get a student visa? I don't know what my status now to get admission to a us college (Am i considered an international student still when applying for college? or a pending permanent resident?) Do a pending permanent resident need a F-1 visa?
