Visa status change

Hi all

I am currenlty holding a multiple entry tourist Visa.. I went to USA last summer..
Now I will be applying for an F1 visa..
Do I have to get my tourist Visa cancelled before going for the interview?

When you go to stamp your student visa, Your tourist visa will automatically become void and it will change to F1 visa.This is what I think,but check on this.
It makes sense because when you go back for visa-stamping for your student visa,at that point he will stamp a F1 and so you change to F1 automatically.
