security clearance resume

Unfortunately, my F1 visa renewal has been delayed to due request for additional information -- and security clearance/background check -- I was told to give a detailed resume and a letter from my advisor explaning my research.

Has anyone gone thru this process before ? Please let me know how much detail is expected ?
