I 20 date & travel date

I got F1 visa. My I20 says 'should report to university no later than 1st of August 2007'. But I want know whether I can travel to USA after this date. If I travel after 1st of August 2007, will the officers at DHS give me problem? will the visa lapse? will I be denied to enter in?

Yes don't do that.Whatever the case is try to go on or before August 1st else there might be problems.
