Dear Sirs at the Immigration Help,
I and my fiance are visiting scholars at the University of Florida in
Gainesville, FL. We came to U.S. from Finland in March 22, 2006 and were
planning to stay 12 months. Now we have applied extension to our DS-2019 forms until the end of June 2007 because of unfinished work. Those
applications are already approved. My question is that if we want to do a
trip for example to a Caribbean island which does not belong to U.S. after
our Visas (J-1) expire in March 22, 2007 (because our original plan to
stay was 12 months), do we have to (and how) apply extension to our Visas?
What about our I-94? I have understood that the expiration of Visa does
not matter unless we want to re-enter the country and that is what happens if we travel to Caribbean during our stay.
Thank you.
