Backlogs are not an issue. Your GRE and the way you talk is what counts. Just be confident and do well. If someone said that if you have back-logs you wont get a visa...its a **** and bull story. Many people say this without even going to the US or attending an interview. Many people have got F1 visa with backlogs. Backlogs is not an issue at all. All the best.

it depends on what is required by your program.

Your welcome...no problem. Most universities require GRE and toefl. But yes it depends on the course and which university...in most cases its the course which matters. There are some courses which do not need GRE and some do. The best is to ask the respective university you are applying for and get in touch with their international-student services dept and the department offering the course.

Have you applied and been offered a spot at any university. Research the schools and programs. Most programs require GRE. You will not get a visa till you have been offered a spot and accepted. You need I-20 first to apply for F1 visa.

Some tips from my side !!

@ Dhwani some more tips which i would like to add...

              1) Take up GRE & TOEFL even if the university says that they are not mandatory, coz all GOOD uni's would ask for TOEFL & GRE scores. An I-20 from a reputed UNI would mean more chance of getting the VISA

              2) Select a good and reputed college/UNi. Selecting a good college means you are serious abt studying there rather than just looking out for a way to reach the US through some college....

              3) Decide on the right course and have ur justification as to why you choose to select that course, and why u decided to stydy the same in US ...Expect questions from the officer like " why can't you take up the course here in INDIA only " or why do u want to do the course in US only ..

              4) Make sure you have all ur docs handy, specially docs supporting money matters..

              5) Speak confidently and be focused on what you say.....expect a lot of counter questions from the officer, so be prepared to answer..

              All the best !!

              Regards

              Jango

@ Dhawni, Backlogs are mostly never an issue as long as you have managed to clear the course...Also do take all your original marklist and cert to the counsulate when you go for the interview, even the marklist which shows that you have not cleared certain subjects in ur 1st attemp

Please please help me on F1 visa document

i have completed my b-tech with 62%, i had backlogs and hence lost almost a year after my course,on that period i have written toefl, gre and send all the documents to university.now i have recieved my I-20 , as i have completed my b-tech last month only, i didnt get my original degree certificate, instead of that our university (engineering) has provided a provisional degree certificate which is equivalent to my original one. my original one will take upto 6 months to be recieved. so will there be any problem that i dont have that original degree certificate instead of provisional certificate during my visa interview?.. please help me on this. i will be really grateful for this.

provisional degree certificate holds good. just have you original marksheets and original marksheets attested and make a copy of your prov degree certificate and have that attested too. If asked for original you can always explain but they are aware of this. So it wont be a problem.
