Dear Sir/Madam,
I completed my PhD studies last month and I am currently in India. I was
previously on F1 student visa status and currently I am on OPT with my
EAD card approved. However, my F1 visa has expired and I plan to appear
at the US consulate here in Mumbai to renew my F1 visa this week. Also I have a job offer with me slated to begin end of this month.
However, I am a little anxious on the likelihood of having my F1 visa
renewed and I have the following doubts/questions that I would
appreciate answers for and would help reassure me.
1. Do you know of many students who have successfully renewed their F1
visa while on OPT in their home countries and contrarily do you know of
any who have been rejected?
2. If the visa officer asks me the reason for my application to renew
my F1 visa when I have already finished my studies, I am planning to
answer that I want to gain practical experience in a major US company to
complement my studies in the US. But I am worried that this answer
might show a bit of "immigration intent" and might lead to a visa denial.
3. I am not sure if I can show enough "non-immigrant intent" after
spending 5 years in Madison doing my PhD. Is there any other document
that would facilitate the granting of my visa. The documents I would be
carrying are: 1. I-20, 2. EAD card, 3. Offer letter, 4. Bank statements
4. Although I have a firm offer letter on the company's letterhead, I
am not sure if the visa officer takes it as a valid document for visa
purposes.
Thank you for your time.
