Hi, I'm from HK and I've been accepted to the University of Oregon as an undergraduate student for Winter 2008. I'm going to have my visa interview in a few weeks and I'd really appreciate it if you guys can help me answer my questions
In my case, I have a US Sponsor paying for US$20,000 for my college. She isn't a relative, and I've met her last year during my exchange in Oregon, USA. She's in her 40s, and she only has one eight-year old kid. She offered to sponsor my study after telling her that I'm really willing to study in the USA. She has filled out the I-134 form and have all required docs. I've applied US$10,000 worth of scholarship. The estimated cost of the whole year is US$30,000. I want to ask...
1) If the Visa Officer asks why she's sponsoring me, do you think it's more convincing to say that she's generously offering US$20,000 for college, or telling her that she's paying US$20,000 for my studies for this year while my parents are going to pay her every month(more like an installment)?
2) Do you think there's anything wrong with my parents paying my sponsor monthly for my college? It's just that they don't have the whole sum of money of US$30,000 in their savings account since they're clearing off our debts which would be able to clear up by the end of this year. Do you think this could be a reason the VO would deny my visa?
3) Is an original income tax docs of my US Sponsor needed? I've tried asking her, but she said that she won't be able to give the original copies to me since she has to use it for filing tax.
4) My parents can afford my education, they both have high-paying jobs but as I've said, they're paying off debts and it'll clear up by the end of the year. Do you think it's necessary to tell this situation to the VO?
Thanks a lot
