  • Info about student visa

    Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am from India and currently hold a B1/B2 Multiple Entry 10 year visa.
I have recently secured admission to CALTECH (undergraduate) and will shortly be applying for a Student's Visa. I have a few queries if you will please reply and oblige.

    1. If I am granted a Student Visa, does my Tourist Visa get cancelled?

    2. If not, can I visit US on my Tourist Visa more than 30 days before my term starts? As an example, my term starts in mid Sept. 2007. By the student visa rules, I cannot enter the US before mid August. However, I have to attend a Young Leaders Conference in June 2007. Can I use the regular Tourist Visa for this?

    3. I am applying from Mumbai. I have heard that the best bet is to apply for a Student Visa as soon as I get the I 20. Closer to the term dates, the visa issuance gets tougher. Is this true? If I apply for a student visa after returning from my trip in June will it jeopardise my chances?

Your response will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
