  • URGENT: F-2 visa, seeking advice

    Dear all,
I am a Master's student in US and i am graduating in May 2008.

I have applied for OPT and my start date for OPT is June 2008. I have a very good offer from a renowned company and the company is filing my H1B application.

I have a question regarding getting F-2 visa.

I am planning to bring my spouse ( in India) on F-2 visa around mid of July. She is doing her PhD and will complete her thesis by June, 2008. She does not have any US Visa yet.

When is the best time for her to apply to get F2 visa? Can she apply ASAP(when i am still a student) or can she apply once i start earning? I heard and read that during OPT, F-2 visas get rejected.

If she applies for F-2 ASAP, i have around 10K USD to show that i can support her and she would not have completed her PhD by then. In this scenario, she can have a valid reason to say that she is not a potential immigrant. But, in this case, will my H-1B and OPT application would be a possible hindrance?

If she applies for F-2 around July (when i would have started earning) ,will my bank statements and salary slip (from my company) will be enough to show that i can support her. How to avoid the possibility of being a potential immigrant?

I want to take a least risk approach. I would be very grateful if someone can advice me in this regard.

    Anxiously waiting for a response.
    best regards,
    Siddharth
