  • F-2 to F-1

    Hi,
Currently I am holding F-1 visa and my wife is holding F-2 visa. Right now we are in Germany and we have temporary residence permit in Germany which is valid for 6 months. We are permanent residence/citizen of India. Mean time my wife has got admission from a US university. My question is if she applies for F-1 visa from Germany and if her F-1 visa is rejected, could she retain her F-2 status or they will cancel it without prejudice? Please help me.
    Thanks

F1 denial should not affect her ability to use her F2 assuming you will be accompanying her, of course. They are not supposed to cancel the F2 unless it has expired. Your wife will need to make sure that they do NOT cancel and be proactive. Even if she gets F1, the F2 should not be cancelled by the VO because you never know when she might want to use it in its validity.
