  • URGENT- questions regarding F-2 visa

    Dear All,
My spouse has a F-2 VISA interview this month end.
I have few doubts which i need to clarify before her VISA interview

Please treat this email as urgent and i would be very grateful if anyone has answers to the following questions:

    1) Is I-134 required when you are sponsoring your spouse?

What kind of financial proofs are required to support your spouse?
Do i need a notarized proof of my US bank statements or just copies of my
US bank statements will be sufficient?

Me and my spouse have bank accounts in India having good funds. Can i
show my bank statements in India as financial proof?

    2) I am completing my study this May and i am joining a company in June. Does a copy of my offer letter (which includes my salary)
is sufficient to show that i will earn well enough to support her or do i need an exclusive letter from my employer stating my salary etc.

    3) My spouse didn't change her name in her passport after marriage. Does she require to include her maiden name in "other surnames/first names" in form DS-156

    4) Is it required for my spouse to show my academic transcripts of the current university i am attending?

I will be very glad to receive a response in this regard.

    Best regards,
    Guppi

    1. I don't think so. But WTH, include it and provide it if asked. It is just one additional paper. You need bank statements from US or India. Preferably US with sufficient balance as you are currently here.
    2. I am thinking that offer letter from the company may work against you as it shows you are joining to work and preferably decide to stay here which is a NO NO for F visa. Are you going to work on OPT? If so, specifically mention it.
    3. Does not matter. There is no need to include married name. The name should always be whatever is there in the passport.
    4. Better carry that to show you are a student in good standing along with a verification of the same from the DSO.

      Hi,
Thank you very much for the reply.
I truly regard you that you took some time to answer my questions.

Yes, i will start working on OPT from June.
In DS-156 form, i have mentioned that my spouse is going to stay with me for 4 months. She is a PhD student in India with good scholarship and she will show her student status in India to prove that she is not a potential immigrant.

Since i will be completing my study in May 2008 and will start working from June ( i have received my OPT card), i thought that i need to show my offer letter as a proof of support after my graduation.

Please let me know your opinion that my offer letter will work against my spouse F-2 visa.
My spouse is coming here to attend my graduation ceremony( my school has sent her an invitation letter) and will help me for my relocation at the time of my joining.

Also, please let me know that is there any special format of bank statements required as a proof or just the monthly bank statements will suffice?

      Eagerly waiting for your response.

      Best regards,
      Guppi

You should be fine with the OPT offer letter for stamping, ties to her PhD research in home country etc.

        Good Luck!
