I am living in Denmark and have applied for a student visa in the U.S. (issue is in progress). This visa allows me to enter the U.S. 30 days before visa period. But I plan to go to USA 40 days before visa period as a tourist. Is that possible, and if so do I have to apply for another type of visa also? Do I change my tourist status to student visa while I am staying in the U.S. and how? Can I contact some authority in USA to do this? Do I have to leave the country and re-enter to change the status?

You can not come more than 30 days in advance with an F1 visa. You would need to apply for a B-2 tourist visa and notify the POE officer that you will be Changing your Status to F1 later on.Disclaimer: The information you obtain from me at this forum is not, nor is it intended to be, legal advice.
