I-94 with USCIS..need to leave country..

I applied for status change from F2 to F1 and filed i-539 in May 2008. I sent my original I-94 to USCIS along with my i-539 application. Now for urgent reasons I need to go to India and return within a month. Please tell me what to do as I don't have I-94 now. Also can I apply for F1 visa in India now?

Do you have a copy with you and the receipt that you have filed those papers?

Take those to the airport and they'll take a new I94 card and record your exit date.

I don't think they take a new I-94 to record the exit date as the numbers are what matters in closing the record.

You should just save a copy of your ticket and boarding pass forever.

What I've seen at the airport a few times ...

... is the airline agent, just took a new card from the desk and wrote down the basic information, stamped it and kept it back.

Though this was some years back. In recent years, things may have changed.

Make sure you have your own copies ...

... have an extra set at the airport, just in case they keep those for their records.
