  • Respected Friends, I need urgent help.

    Respected Friends,

I will be leaving to US on 3rd of Aug on F1. My problem is with the name displayed on ticket.

My correct name on Passport is 'Shujaath' where as name on ticket written by a travel agent is Shujath. There is one 'a' missing in my name. Is this going to create any problem at the time of immigration?

I checked this with Emirates and they said: we have no Issues, we will allow you to board the plane however we cant say anything at immigration. Also, they said that they will put a comment saying that for Name refer to Passport.

Please help me with this. Tell me what shall I do. I do not have other slots available to cancel this and book another ticket.

    Please help me.

    Thanks,
    Shujaath

    Ah!

These days, especially for international travel they're very strict and insist that the FULL NAME in the passport HAS to match the name in their system.

However, the name on the "ticket" itself may not matter that much if it's corrected properly in their system.

Yes, you might, just might have a higher probability of an issue in immigration.

Do make sure you have the date/time and the name of the person you spoke with in your airline.

It's your call though. Either way it is okay, you can travel with this ticket or you can ask them to re-issue the same with the corrected name. That "technically" should not cost them anything at all and at the most they might hit you with $10 or $20 of mailing costs.

    Good luck.

      Hello,

If the error is only at your physical plane ticket, don't worry about it for a minute at all. If the mitsake appears in their electronic system as well, it is a bit more risky, however, personally, I don't thinking a missing "a" would create problems...I mean they might not even realize the mistake as I didn't realize at first when I read your thread. And you can always tell them to check your passport, but since it's only a letter mistake it's totally idfferent than if you a completely different last name, and/or first name on your ticket as in your passport! I don't think you should be worried about it! Anyway, good luck!

Thanks a lot for your replies Sharpy and Knowledgable. I am feeling a bit relax now. However, what do you actually mean by SYSTEM. Are you saying that Name displayed on my Visa and Passport must be matching or you meant to say the name that I filled up while filling up DSS forms?

My name on Passport, DSS forms and even on I-20 is spelled correctly. More over shall I carry my Driving License and PAN card (issued by Govt of India) which will also help me in proving correct spellings of my Name.

Please eloborate more on 'their System/Electronic System'.

Thanks again for your help friends. I really appreciate that, specially for such a quick response.

        Thanks,
        Shujaath.

You're welcome! I meant "system" by the flight businesses....if in their computer your name is mispelled, it might create issues, but as you said, if you have a driver licence with correct name, passport with correct name, and or official I-20 with your correct name, then I don't think you would have any trouble! Good luck! And have a safe trip! Lemme know if you have some questions, as well as let us know you made it safe, ok?
          Have a nice flight!

Ps: The border patrol guy won't roar too loud seeing your name correct in the passport, visa, DL and all the others except the plane ticket...indeed, he might not even check your ticket at all. He doesn't care what flight you entered, but why you entered, how long you're staying, and whether you have the correct visa in your passport, or not. So, I'm almost 100% positive that he won't bug you. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. Just act naturally, and only give documents that he is asking...he might not going to ask for your ticket at all...if he does, let him realize your misspelled name, and then show him some documents about your correct name...I'm sure he'll go "oooh, okay". Good luck again!

It will most likely not be an issue. Once you are out of the flight, no one will look at your boarding pass or name on it.

Most of the flight reservation systems use short names or initials only and it has never been an issue for me during travel.
