  • F1 visa is one year more than needed???

Hi, my boyfriend (UK resident) applied to a US university, and
was accepted for a 4-year term and when he got his visa back,
it allows him to stay for 5 years.

If he graduated college in May 2012, but his visa expires in July
2013, does that mean he's free to stay without doing anything,
or does he still need to leave within 60 days of graduating?

F1 visa immigrants' get I-94 marked D/S meaning they are allowed to stay until the maintain their status. Duration of Study/Status.

Once graduated no status to hold and one has 60 days grace period unless they have applied for OPT and plan to work.

      Okay, thank you..

And if he were to decide during those 4 years of
college that he'd like to marry me (I am an American
citizen), what would he have to do? And would this
be looked down upon? Would it be a tricky process?

We've already been dating for 4 years, so I'm sure
marriage would be an option we'd like to take in the
future - but I'm scared that it's going to be a hard
process because we're from different countries.

PS: I think I asked a similar question in another post
of mine, but that was before he knew for sure he had
      recieved the F1 visa, etc.
