F1 renewal help

Hello,

My F1 visa will be expiring on 14th July 2009. How early can I apply for a renewal before it expires? Can I renew my visa at US embassy located in Canada? I want to travel to Canada during last week of January 2009. Can I do that with my visa expiring in less than six months? Will the Immigration officer cause any trouble during my entry to US?

F1 renewal is just like a new F1. It might be risky to go to a consulate in third country. Home country is preferred. Wait for more responses.
