OPT expiring and not yet received H1B approval

Hello,
I am in this following situation

i have OPT until october 5th and i am currently working for a non-profit organization as a postdoctoral researcher. My institution has filed for my H1B during july 1st week and on september 17th upgraded my H1B processing to premium. I am still waiting to receive the approval documents. Can i continue working after October 5th if i dont receive the documents by 5th because my H1B application is already filed but still didnt hear any decision. Can anyone please let me know about this.

Contact your university's international office, they will tell you about H1B cap gap extension, but I do not know if this applies to cap exempt visas.
