F1 to H4 - can we still get OPT

Hello,
If i am on a F1 Visa right now completing my masters in March 2009 can I go back on a H4 visa (my husband is on a H1B visa) and then later on say in July 2009 could I apply for OPT?

So basically the question is that does OPT have to be applied immediately after MS graduation or can there be a gap in between.

Please help

OPT is allowed only while on F1 and if you apply before graduation meeting the criteria.
