What is the best thing to do to be back on track if your both I-20 and visa is expired but you were in a good adademic position in school and with the help of your major professor you are still publishing papers in a journal?

Thank you so much for a suggestion. Whom do you think I should talk to? I have talked to International Student Office at my university but they say that there is nothing they can do. I am really in an awkward situation. Please help!
